Food & Beverage / Pharmaceuticals

Production · cleaning · sterilization · process heating

Food, beverage, and pharmaceutical facilities need reliable, cleaner, flexible steam or hot water for production, cleaning, sterilization, sanitation, and process heating.

Industry Overview

Food, beverage, and pharmaceutical facilities need reliable, cleaner, flexible steam or hot water for production, cleaning, sterilization, sanitation, and process heating.

Fast-Response Production

ZETA boilers can be online in approximately 30–60 seconds from standby and modulate from 3–100% to match changing steam or hot-water demand.

High-Purity Dry Steam

ZETA boilers deliver steam quality above 99.8%, limiting moisture carryover for effective heat transfer, while maintaining less than 5 ppb sodium to help minimize corrosion within the steam system.

Flexible Capacity
ZETA boilers consume less than 50 kW in warm standby and generate no heat until called into operation. This helps reduce explosion risk while keeping backup or supplemental capacity readily available.

Avebe Stadex in Malmö uses significant amounts of steam in its starch production process, where potato flour is processed into food ingredients. To support its climate and sustainability goals, Stadex replaced its natural gas-fired boiler with a ZETA electrode boiler.

The project improved energy efficiency by about 7% compared to the previous gas-fired system. The new boiler was installed in the existing building while the factory remained in operation and was connected to the existing steam system.

Octapharma Stockholm required reliable steam generation to support its pharmaceutical and plasma production operations while continuing its site-wide sustainability improvements. As part of this effort, the facility transitioned from an oil-fired boiler to a ZETA electrode steam boiler in 2016.

Since 2015, Octapharma Stockholm has reduced energy consumption by about 30% per tonne of plasma and reduced water consumption by about 20% per tonne of plasma. Combined with renewable electricity and other efficiency measures, the site maintained the steam supply needed for clean production, process heating, and plant utility operations.
